Yeah, but you' need to reset the home point since the 500ft is relative to that. Which means you'll have to be very careful on RTH. Not saying it won't work - it will, just not with land and take off simplicity.

And you don't get GPS data correctly via a tether. Common misconception. in an iDevice you either have a GPS chip if you have cellular and get accurate GPS data or you get Location Service via WiFi which is inaccurate and slow to refresh.

It only tells you if it has a charge, bad info. You need charge counters, etc to determine it's lifespan and the lights aren't going to tell you that. The Go app as another poster said is the place to start. A brand new battery with no charge may not even light up, that doesn't mean it's bad.

Have to be careful with that approach though. If T-mobile is partnered with another company (usually ATT) for extended coverage then they'll show coverage in an area but it's not 2G

Yeah, but if you look at a lot of the crash threads seems our birds like to eject their batteries on impact. For me the beauty of the Trackimo/Marco Polo solutions is the total independence of the solution from the drone or it's control. Not saying your idea isn't viable - it certainly is, but...

Trouble with the Find My drone in DJI is it's only the last reported communication. If the bird goes out of comm and flies 300 yards away and crashes your DJI app is going to report it's location as the last comm point. Bit of false sense of security there IMHO.
