As one alternative consider the possibility that the battery in the p4 disconnected and then fell out at the point of last signal. I do not know why this happens, maybe because of flexing of the craft. I always have had trouble removing the battery because it catches on the way out...
I have not posted about this before but I had the battery fall out and luckily I saw it happen or would have blamed it on lost signal and control. I do not know how this could happen considering difficulty in getting battery out of drone every time
No I cannot be sure both clips locked properly. I do know at least one of them was locked in place.

I might have not made it clear but the Phantom lost all power about 30 feet above trees a little far to see the battery fall but what else would cause all communication and power? it went straight down into the trees below.
