The scary part, to me, is that because DJI said they are putting a 15 mile no-fly around DC, people think that's the no-fly zone. The truth is, the no-fly zone extends for 30 miles, not for 15. Be a responsible UAV owner, and don't rely on built in safeguards to stay legal.

Actually, DJI isn't doing anything but enforcing the already in place rule. And no, there are no legal places to use your quad within that radius of DC (without FAA permission). NOTAM 8326...it even specifically mentions drones, more or less. THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED...

I actually detest the start-up noise on the Phantom. HATE it. I am embarrassed to turn it on around other people...sounds like a children's toy "powering up".

PhantomPhreak, Give it a day...mine took almost two or three hours after first activating it before it caught on. It was only reporting cell phone location data during that time, but a few hours later it zeroed in on the satellites...and has been accurate up to the minute ever since.

Yeah...I was like...Wait, what am I looking at, a bunch of ground..? Then you had the overlay graphics showing where the buildings were, etc...and I was Ohhhhh! That's neat! Very cool way to see something that might be difficult or impossible to recognize from the ground level.

Re: Watch What a gorgeous area to fly. I would be doing some MAJOR distance tests there! Very clear, sparsely populated, easy enough to go retrieve a failed flight. Very nice.
