This may be a dumb question, but the whole gimbal assembly is aluminum right? It's already between the camera and body, so why would the aluminum tape be of any benefit? I guess if you are seeing better results then you might be onto something.

Hmm. I just did the mod, but only tucked the wire underneath. Before the mod I could get 7 sats in my backyard. Now I'm only getting 4-5, satnavpredictor says I should be getting up to 8. Not looking good for me.

I guess I should feel lucky. Last week the camera failed on mine, called and got RMA. They just received it this Thursday. Just one day later I got an email saying the camera was replaced. Got a fedex shipping notice today and should have it back on Tuesday.

I don't think distance matters. I took mine to Japan, several thousand miles away. I forgot to initiate calibration. It flew with no problems. I felt like an idiot afterwards to forget such a thing. But in my defense it was only my 3rd time flying it.

The support guy had me jiggle the grey wires while the unit was on to check for a loose connection. Camera showed no signs of life. So I'll be sending back yet another one. I'm getting to know these support guys pretty well by now.
