I'm not sure that the behaviour we are seeing is consistent with solar flare disruption as it only happens for the first 5 minutes or so of each flight. If it were solar flare activity, wouldn't we expect to see issues at any time during a flight?

I've found a similar problem since updating firmware and app about a week ago. For the first 5 minutes of each flight the P3P is extremely difficult to control, but it settles down and stabilises after a while and behaves predictably for the rest of the flight.

I've found controlling it in ATTI is much more difficult as you constantly have to adjust for movement caused my wind variations. Fly well clear of obstacles!

Seems to work best for me when I have them almost vertical which means they are parallel to the legs of the bird.

Yes, I agree, night flights at the beach are great. I fly from the top of my apartment building at xxxx, across the river, follow the beach to yyyy :-) It's extremely beautiful. I haven't taken any great shots yet, but I'm sure I will once I'm more familiar with everything at night.

Yes, the Aust Civil Aviation Authority also bans night flying, but..... :-)
