I could be caused by overuse of that motor caused by constantly flying in one particular direction.
If it is significantly hotter, I would take it back.
I also started learning on the Hubsan x4. I got my Phantom 4 on Friday and I am really glad I had an understanding of the controls.

The best thing to launch of is a level surface. This allows the gimbal and other things to calibrate properly.
I doubt that the snow would be level so launching of another surface is probably a good idea.
I would like to know what cases you guys are using with your Phantom 4. Do you use a hard shell or backpack?
Many of the options I have looked at don't look very protective and I want someone that's really protective without being bulky.
