Yep plenty of people have been caught or even purposely flown in the rain and no noticeable issues were caused. The motors are brushless so they don't mind. Having said that I wouldn't purposely do it. You shouldn't need to move in any direction when lowering the phantom at full speed as its set...
I always felt like the prop protectors would increase the motor housing resistance to cracking but I didn't really like them for a few minor reasons and removed them. I had minor cracking after 5 months of purchase on my p3a but didn't send it in till about a month out from the end of the 1 year...
From my understanding it controls how quickly the p3 responds to commands. Obviously if your light/gradual on the sticks it should have same affect but I just wanted to rule out sudden changes in the p3's movements (yaw etc) as it's not something I need anyway.
Yeh battery cell error is not an error to take lightly. Like stumbleBee is alluding too it's never a bad idea to check battery health before take off. I try to check when hovering too, especially if the flying conditions are less than optimal.
I've seen a few folks on fb try left stick down on an upturned p3 and when that failed they picked the bird up with motors still spinning.. Good way to get injured when CSC is safer and faster.
