There are some you tube videos of some attempting this controlled recovery technique. I'll advised only in case of an extreme emergency. In short. It is doable.
I have three phantoms, a P3s and two fc 40s. If I need to get in the air quick I use one of my fc40s with a 3s gimble mounted camera. They do great as a backup.
