:) Spark is a great starter drone and, as stated above, the controller is a huge plus. Just be aware if your friend gets bitten by the drone bug, he may find himself wasting a drone with more range and battery life real quick. A refurbed Mavic Pro isn't a bad idea if he's prone to bug bites.

Get one of those foldable helipads. Will keep the dust and debris away even when it doesn' flip. :)

Phantoms are L O U D, so there's so there's only so much you can do.

If the heli has a transponder, it should show up for you. I've found that small planes and private copters having a transponder is a crap shoot. I can see most of the police, medical, and news choppers on FlightRadar, but every once in a while I'll have a plane or copter fly over that doesn't...

My question is: What difference does it make? If there's a Phantom you want, buy it. Batteries, parts, and service will be available for years and years even if DJI kills the line tomorrow.

After my gimbal motor burned out I've decided not to use the Phantom if it's too windy. On those days, it's the Mavic. That Mavic performs really well in the wind and the range/penetration of the signal is amazing. And no flip outs.

I suspect if you took it up high on a windy day and flew it at top speed it would be worse than that... like mine. :oops:

When cars hit the road for the first time there wasn't any speed limits, traffic lights, etc. With the number of consumer and commercial drones expected to be in the air in the next 10 years, some order will be needed.. and it will come at the expense of our flying freedom. It's the Wild West...
