    landing on windy day

I've tried auto-land a few times. Seems cool if you're a novice flier or in a perfect landing spot. Beyond that too much feedback from the sensors can cause it sometimes to elevate again when landing, then try land again, and then sense something that's not really an issue and elevate again...

Is the DJI OSMO a must have?

Yeah I don't know about must have. The X5 with the oly 12mm lens makes impressive footage and stills. Also very steady with a axis. Big but is if you're throwing a focus wheel, z-axis, and/or shotgun mic on it than it takes forever and is heavy and a bit unruly. The case it comes with is cool...

    OSMO 4 REAL ESTATE?

If budget can cover I'd recommend the osmo pro because the camera is much better in low light so you'll need less lighting indoors. The z-axis makes walkthroughs straight steadi-cam.

Q's re: height telemetry variance and connection loss behavior

This is true. Double check your alt readings when you take off from something like a ridge among hills and throughout the flight. I've taken off from a peak, tried to fly over a hill probably 70 feet taller, and not been able to elevate over it when I got close because I got max altitude warning.

    descend and grab ?

I can see the angle you are coming from and some situations yea GPS but I think new pilots over rely on it, don't realize it can and will fail, isn't as accurate as you hope, and are scared to fly in ATTI mode when it will actually save your bird in some situations. -You can fly backwards in...

Days like these make me want to stop flying...

I land and hand catch in ATTI on the P4P. With the sensors on I've found it will brake, re-elevate, suddenly stop, drop, bounce around a bit, re-correct, etc when it gets close to the ground. Sometimes I land on my hard case and GPS hates trying that. ATTI goes down smooth, no bouncing.

    descend and grab ?

In GPS mode when you let off the sticks the drone will break immediately. In ATTI you can let off the sticks and the drone is going to keep moving with it's momentum for a certain distance. GPS mode is like wearing cleats, ATTI ice skates. If I'm feeling it and the drone is responding well it's...

    baby step above Beginner Mode...?

Just my opinion but if you have 30 flights you're ready to go to an open field on a non-windy day and try flying in all the modes including ATTI. Time to learn what to expect if you do lose signal because though I'm sure very rare, it can happen even in beginner mode, and it's either not a big...

DJI Customer Service- It just keeps getting worse!

I remember when my osmo pro combo showed up on my doorstep only to open it and it was empty except batteries and extension arms. That was 3 weeks ago. From what I've heard from an employee, DJI shipping isn't very organized and the backorders has them all bum-rushing restocks and snatching up...

DJI Customer Service- It just keeps getting worse!

China corporate culture and DJI specifically has one goal. Manufacture as many drones as possible. Customer service is distant, distant, distant priority. DJI hires a **** ton of engineers, doesn't care about much else. Just the way it is.

Close canyon flying on Mars with P4P

Thanks Jeff! I did a lot of the flying from on top of the canyon looking down on the drone so as not to let it get behind stuff. Had to set RTH to hovering pretty high. Lots of signal problems in there though. Actually seemed to cause the gimbal to stop stabilizing when rolling which made...
