The charger for the P3P is 100 watts. The reality is you might get 50% efficiency (if you are lucky and depending on where you are located) so you are up to a 200W panel. You will also need an inverter to give you the proper voltage. You will also want a battery to power from rather than a solar...
Think outside the box. There are going to be a lot more uses than photography. More and more sensors will be available to add as payloads opening up new industries for UAS. Infrared, moisture, LIDAR, etc are all coming down in price and weight and are being attached to UAS now.

You can still fly without a phone. If I were in that position I would do an immediate RTH by pressing and holding the RTH button for a second or two.
Keep in mind that FAA rules require you to keep eyes on your UAS at all time.

Unfortunately, it doesnt work like that. There is no "GPS ping" when you turn it on.
There may only be one video because many people format the card before every flight. He probably didnt start recording until he was up in the air.
I really hope you can make some effort to find the owner...

FAA Registration card
AMA Membership card (temporary, still deciding if its worth joining)
AMA Safety Code
FAA Document "LAW ENFORCEMENT GUIDANCE FOR SUSPECTED UNAUTHORIZED UAS OPERATIONS" (So I can show to any LEO that comes by)
FAA...
I would highly recommend you become familiar with all the features of your Phantom with some short flights before you send it off almost a half mile. Understanding how RTH and the failsafe features work like the back of your hand will greatly reduce the chance of you losing Sophie.
Kudos for you for taking the initiative to find the owner. If there are still pictures on it they should have the GPS coordinates embedded from where they were taken. If the card yields no clue then I might suggest you see if there is a local hobby shop in town. If you can find someone with a...
Just for clarification, by Phantom's name is Leroy Jenkins not mine. I'm pretty sure he would fly just fine, but I think its prudent to take something that will be flying at 400' in the air possibly near people and have it checked out before flying again. These things are not toys! Keeping my...
