I had the same situation but, after re-booting the RC and the Phantom, I got the prompt to update the aircraft and the rest went smoothly. I used the app on an iPad.

A standard garage door is about 7 ft high. With that in mind, the top of the tall tree pictured exceeds 70 feet agl by a pretty good margin.

I got one of these balancers and modified it as GreggC suggested. It worked perfectly. One big disappointment for me...all 8 props I checked were in balance. Checked them twice. I was really looking forward to balancing some props....

Did you try to update using the DJI Go app? Mine updated easily using my iPad and the DJI connector/adapter cord. I'm only about a week or so ahead of you on the learning curve, so I'm sure that one of the more experienced guys will have something to add, but I would try using the mobile app...

Actually, I used PayPal when I placed my order and the payment was processed immediately. When it came to shipping my order.....no joy. I'm sure there is some explanation, but the process is not very consistent.

I had virtually the same experience with my order (from DJI) for two batteries and a set of props. I cancelled and walked into Apple and bought what I needed. On the positive side, DJI handled my cancellation and refund quickly and professionally. They're not the first company that doesn't have...

I believe that I read (not sure where) that using prop guards on a P4 would negate the Obstacle Avoidance function. Looking at my P4 it does appear that a prop guard could be in the viewing angle of the front sensors. Even if the above is true it doesn't mean that they won't be available, but...

What was the rationale for Apple exchanging the damaged P4 for a new one?
