I did update and all went well for rc and drone. Flew for 20 minutes and landed without issue.

Today bought a new battery and knew id need to do the battery update. So i put update back on sd card and put new battery in and did the update no issues. Formatted sd card and rebooted and now rc says it requires update. So i click on download fimrware and tell it to install. When it tries to install it fails and then i see that i have the same version it is trying to install. Why does it keep telling me to update

It sounds like this problem
solid blue light on controller - firmware update issue

My controller did this with the 1.5.7>>1.5.8 RC update. Never had any issues before.
The "hold C1+C2+record button+video wheel button then power on" resets the controller to a state where it can try to update again. Force close and restart DJI GO and try the update again.

It took me a couple of tries to get it to work. When it finally "successfully" updated it happened quick, without the long process where it incessantly beeps while updating. So, I think it did all the hard work of the update on the "failed" attempt, but somehow didn't complete. The controller reset allowed it to somehow finish up. Once it did, I didn't have to re-pair the RC to the aircraft or anything else. It was ready to go.

So many people have been reporting this exact same issue with this particular RC update.
Clearly it's an issue, so I expect to see more posts with the same question.

Along with the difficult button press maneuver noted above to reset the RC, I normally also add this photo to help people see which buttons.

Thanks, Oso. I was looking for that image, but couldn't find it.
Yeah, really strange with this update. It simply said "failed" after the long beeping part, and the light stayed solid blue.

My friend has problems with updates and imu calibration. It fails repeatedly with two different android devices. But if I try with iPad or iPhone, works first time flawlessly. Are you trying to update rc with a android? Try with iPhone or iPad if around.

The RC issue happened to me as well. I did the reset procedure and it seemed to do the trick. Make sure you take out any thumb drives or micro sd card from the RC before performing the procedure.

Yep same issue here! RC wants upgrade again and a again.

And some issues came up with Stills and video. If I change video from 1080 to 2k/4k and start recording dji go app freezes and resets camera settings. And creates some corrupted files. Some times taking still pics makes same issue.

Otherwise AC flies fine.

I had this same problem with my rc and the only thing that was differnt was the new marshmellow update on my note 5. I ended up buying a galaxy tab A which is still running lollipop. And my controller updated right away.i called dji and they gave me a hundred things to try none of course worked, last thing was to send it in. I figured I would take a $200 dollar gamble.

I've been having this issue now for days.. Every time i start up the DJI app it wants me to upgrade the RC FW to 1.5.80.. i do the upgrade, but it keeps telling me it needs the upgrade.. Even did the "C1+C2+record button+video wheel button" process - that time the upgrade beeps/process was very different, but after restarting everything, it still wants me to upgrade to 1.5.80..
Since i first started trying to upgrade, video is not properly recording. It seems that recording turns itself off randomly, and then the video never gets saved in the bird.. so at this point it's a tossup if my footage gets saved or not..

I have this problem. I have reset rc, deleted app and reinstalled. The only thing that works is to make sure the rc is powered on before opening dji go ( then everything is fine and it says I'm on current fw). If the app is open when I power rc on I get the update fw message.

These are screen shots of app on before rc

Now these next 2 screenshots are when I power on rc before opening app

Drone and RC Upgrades are different. Batteries are upgraded via drone sd card. You need to upgrade the RC separately.

Yes I have updated the rc separately over and over and over, every time with a little green success check mark at the end, but I still get the need fw update message if I turn on app before rc. In the screen shots above the rc is not connected to the quad. It's just to show what happens when app is opened before rc is powered on( I get the need fw update, even though I have successfully done it 30 times now)

Jdhill - Thanks for the observation on the proper power up sequence. I have been fighting this for a couple of weeks now and so far that seems to correct the issue. I've only been at this a couple of months now but it sure seems to me that this is new to 1.5.8. I was also going crazy doing a manual home point set with the new version. I always used to set my bird in its take off spot (with battery on), and do a home point set prior to starting the motors and taking off. I have discovered that the motors need to be running now before you can set the home point. Again - maybe I just managed to do all this in the proper order before by dumb luck, but it seems unlikely that the new R/C version didn't have something to do with it. Anyhow, I'm happy again. For the moment.

Ya it's definitely a issue with either the go app update or rc update, because before it didn't matter if i opened app first or powered rc on first, I never got the update message( when everything was updated). I've only been at it a couple of months as well, it sure is fun isn't it ?!?
I read the sequence thing in one of the "rc update problem" threads, when I was searching for a solution. I would like to have a more permanent fix, but this will do for now.

Hi,
I am having an even worse error message.

I have tried all the different combinations of buttons suggested to reset RC and reinstalled DJIGO app, and tried several times to update remote. The time I got furthest was after the 4 button reset of the RC which was 2%, and after failed update every single time. Must have tried 20 times at least!

I only turn on the remote

Here is an image of the error
