Hello Phantom Pilots,

Anyone know how to restore a bad compass. Mine will not calibrate. Keeps giving me error message and jumps to att i mode.

Read somewhere to wave a magnet at the compass. Is this a bogus solution or?

Just purchased another but checking to see if current compass is salvageable.

Thx all

Look at the compass data in the app.
Are there numbers showing or zero?
If you have zero, the compass is busted or disconnected and will never calibrate.

Yes there are numbers. Cause when I do I IMU calibration it calibrates and shows around 1400 in far right where it should be around 1500.
It's definetly connected and gething a reading.

It will show green safe for take off. Then when I go to place it to launch as soon as I move aircraft it jumps to red saying it needs calibration.

Then I perform a calibrationand it never sets correctly. I used to and it calibrated perfectly.

But now all of a sudden it went bad. Don't know what else to do so I purchased a new compass.

Is the area you are calibrating, clear of any magnetic influences?
That is ... are you nowhere near cars, structural steel, buried pipes or cables and reinforced concrete?

Not really because I live in South Los Angeles and there are buildings and power lines and everything all over the place. But before this happened I was able to calibrate and it all work fine in the same area. For some reason now it doesn't want to work.

I had the same problem.I moved to a different location and the problem did not recur.

I was looking at you other posts. Have you had any flights without these compass issues?
It still messed up?

Is it giving you a Compass error while attempting to fly?

I had a similar issue not long ago, I re-calibrated over and over in the same spots I did in the past and for some reason, the same spot was not working out anymore.

Re-do your IMU, making sure its 100% level, use a level to ensure it is if you have not - make sure its no where near metal/concrete etc...
Then try your compass calibration again in a different location. If its getting a reading, it should work.

Tried your method and issue remains. It jumps in and out of compass error and green color safe to fly.

Same thing that was going on with mine. I had to re-do the IMU and compass a handful of times, eventually it worked, not sure why - but it did. I know it sucks.

Sorry but what I was really asking,
"I was looking at you other posts. Have you had any flights without these compass issues?"
Has this been broke out of the box?
Because your asking what parts to buy.
Which parts do buy?

Just in General any list of p3 4k parts. But a link was sent on thread and all is good. Was looking for a compass. Mine will not calibrate, as I think I touched it with a magnetic screwdriver aND it went wacko. Now I cannot seem to calibrate it. So I thought of purchasing a new one on a landing gear leg that is closed up where I do not have to mess with it except for installing new leg and hopefully this one, brand new untouched will calibrate.

Yes, Yes, and thank you, I wish you would have posted that information from the get-go, you would have got many other answers. More questions of coarse.
;)

Thanks everyone for all the input. I ended up buying a new Compass and it arrived today. I installed it and my issue is resolved! No compass errors whatsoever! So for those of you who are having a compass calibration issue or any issue with trying to calibrate your compass just buy a new compass; they're only $12. It's a cheap try that you're not wasting a lot of money on to see if that's the problem,, a bad compass, and most likely it is, just like my case. So save some headaches and time and buy a new compass.
