I have a firewall running on my android phone which alerts me whenever an app tries to open a internet connection.

Since a few minutes I get constanly alert messages cuz the DJ Go App tries to connect to many different IP adresses.

I haven't used the app for days and it's also not running in the background.

Check out my screenshot.

Anybody cares to explain that behavior ?

Yes, your DJI GO app is calling home! The first entry is one of the home addresses of DJI in China!
I noticed that quite some time ago and did a trace on where it was sending information to.
Here is a list that reflects the locations it is trying to reach. And the program is like a virus in that it is loaded into your active memory the first time you run the DJI GO app. So it does not go away! Don't know if it is embedded in the DJI GO App, or is loaded into you system when you register the DJI GO App on line for the first time. But anyway, it is definitely placed there by DJI!

The entry for 192.168.1.1 is your local router address and is trying 100's of times, as you can see.

A solution is to block the above address from being allowed through your router. Putting your phone on Airplane Mode will also block the WIFi signals from going out as well.

I don't ever allow ANY Internet access from my flight tablets, except when I am downloading a Google map of a flight area. Other than that, Airplane Mode is on.

Hope this helps,
GR

Thank you George.
But I can't just dedicate a tablet for flying only just to keep it offline all the time.
Another way would be rooting it and putting on a firewall on it but that voids the warranty on my brand new Galxy TabS2.
I would like to hear the official statement from DJI to all of this.
How can we trust this company if they are spying on us behind our back?

I always thought that it tried to contact pure NFZ servers, if it is connecting to unknown sites, we should definitely take up with DJI and use airplane mode while using it.

That has been a concern of mine as well. All the info that this Chinese company has on every one of our drones and where we fly, etc. I'm not paranoid but.................this gives them a legal way to spy on us but don't they have access to all of our flights if they wanted to?

Been discussed and disgusted by it. Read this thread?
Blocking the GO app
Kind of an underhanded pitch...
So, I use my iPad 3 for web browsing and the iPad Air 2 Cellular solely for the Go app.
Yes, I fly in Airplane mode, how else? Hahaha
