Phantom 3 Replacement Body / Shells

So i am utterly shattered that after only having my phantom 3 for a week, the body has cracked. I had a crash inside and this time, as well as the propellor snapping, the area holding one of the motors has snapped completely out of the body. As far as i can tell the motor is fine but now i need to replace the shell.

Does anyone know any online stores selling the replacement shells yet????

Any help would be much appreciated.

Shells are not available right now. Your quickest fix is to send it to DJI or buy a new Phantom and sell this one for parts.

Any idea if i send it back to DJI whether they fix things like this? And if it costs much?

DJI can fix anything. You'd have to talk to them about the cost. I'm assuming it'll be much cheaper than a new Phantom though.

If that were mine and that was the only problem I would separate the shell and use an industrial strength epoxy resin to carefully glue the broken bit back into place.

If no luck with DJI, in the meanwhile, why don't you do what modellers do, and fix it yourself?
Until, shells become available or something...
Do you have a P2 prop guard?
You could utilise the just part of the prop guard that fits under the motor mount....... and longer screws to fasten the motor?
Just a thought......

That's sucks, interesting can you see if there is any dampening between the motor and the shell ? You taken the screws out ?

I don't know how handy you are. I have a wood shop and fix just about anything. A temp fix,if you want to get your bird in the air until shells arrive is to go purchase a thin sheet of aluminum from Home Depot or wherever you can find one. Probably 1/16 or 1/8 inch thick. Cut out an oval. Take the plastic piece attached to the motor off. Use those holes as a guide to drill new holes into the aluminum. Get longer screws and pit the aluminum piece under the bottom of the motor housing and screws up into that hole into the motor. You will need longer screws and I'd use blue Loctite. The weight of the aluminum plat is nil and should affect flight. I have a Trackimo by my landing gear on my p3 and that weighs more than the piece you would be adding. Flys fine. I wouldn't try to repair the plastic with epoxy. Probably won't hold up

Thin aluminum cuts well with fine tooth jig saw or band saw

I would also put that broken plastic piece back on with the longer screws to add as a buttress to prevent compression of the motor down into the hole. Maybe add some epoxy around the plastic piece and the hole for added rigidity. It should also hold the mother well. I suppose you could also get large washers to pit on the bottom instead of a solid aluminum piece. I don't know how much shifting you would get though

This is true. I mean if you want a temp fix, you can patch it. Just take it easy on lift offs and maneuvers. Should work fine

Would fiberglass resin attack the plastic ? If not that would solve it , fiberglass all under the arm when it's back in. Would be the strongest one of all

I have a phantom 3 pro where the camera/gimbal was damaged the first day I received it. I sent it back to the dealer and they are waiting for a RMA from DJI. I am tempted to have them send it back and sell it as is with no camera. I was reading another post where someone sold his on ebay for around $650-$700. I think that this might be more then you want to spend tho?

Yesterday DJI released this part http://store.dji.com/product/phantom-3-advanced-professional-aircraft-body (Phantom 3 - Advanced/Professional Aircraft Body) for $680, apparently it includes all electronics minus the Gimbal/Cam. This was bad news for me, looks like they are not planning to release empty plastic body shells like those available for P2. My P3 case is heavily dented and suffered a severe crash so I had to cyano all 8 nuts in the upper shell in place. The main board plastic support inside the shell was also broken and I fixed it temporarily till a plastic shell is available.
Does anybody have any input on the subject?

Maybe someone somewhere could mould a two piece shell out of a resin or something better than this plastic.

The idea with an aluminium plate is probably the best IMO. What you'll need care with is the length of the bolts not being too long and pushing into the motor windings (the copper coloured wires inside) and causing damage when powering up. Edit...also refit the broken plastic motor mount back in position carefully with maybe hot glue on the inside so as to get the correct angle. This helps the P3 with stable hovering.

If true, that no 'shell only' parts will be available... Wow!

Has anyone else noticed that the Phantom 3 body seems to be made of a thinner plastic material than previous phantoms? Maybe they did this to cut down on the weight of the bird. Whatever the case, both of my previous phantoms seemed a bit sturdier material wise.

See if you can find a company in your area that are Plastic fabricators,they will have the glues to repair your shell and reinforce it.Any company that works with Plexiglas will be able to help.
