We're going to vacation to Italy soon and I'd like to bring my Phantom. We'll be visiting Florence, Tuscany (wineries), Rome and the southern (Amalfi) coast.

I doubt I would risk flying in Florence or Rome, but I'd love to get some aerial shots of the Tuscany countryside as well as the southern coast. I did some searching but have not found any good information about flying in Italy.

Can someone who has traveled recently or who lives there provide any insight?

I dont know about the laws, but Sienna is absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure you can get some amazing photos of the fort from the outside

I think we may be passing by Sienna, I'll double check!

If you do it for fun it is considered as a Rc airplane activity: stay away from people, buildings and major roads. Fly vlos, max height 70mt, max dist. 200 mt . Outside airports ATZ or 5nm if no ATZ (like Siena airfield).

Thank you very much for your accurate information!!!
I'll be visiting Toscana next September and I had some troubles interpreting the ENAC regulations. Not anymore thanks you!

Hi did you go to Italy with your drone - did you had any issues on airports ( specially Italian one )etc or flying around - please update

i just came back from italy. No issues going through any boarders. They would just ask whats in my bag. Once I told them they let me right through.

Always kept it with me. Carry on. I have the DJI hard case and fits nicely above storage.

No problem. Have fun! And just watch out when flying on the beach. Those helicopters like to fly low. And if there is a forest fire they come right to the beach to fill with water. Keep it LOS.
