Brown trouser moment

Thanks guys, very confused as I didn't set it to atti and the app is not set to let me??
Do you think that the battery will be under warranty ?
You may or may not have a problem with the battery but that has nothing to do with what happened during this flight . Your phantom dropped satellites and that is why is automatically switched between atti and gps mode . This was all more than likely caused by a bad compass calibration. If you also noticed toilet bowl effect (TBE) then that it was most definitely caused your phantom to fly crazy . Often times when you see TBE you will also have the phantom switch between gps and atti mode. Always check your sensor mods before each flight and directly after a calibration. This will make sure you haven't introduced a bad calibration. The compass mod should be around 1500. But anything between 1475-1525 is good to go.

As I hope this picture explains- I don't believe that I could have set the controls to ATTI as the settings wouldn't have let me.
Would it have gone automatically if I had lost GPS or maybe some interrupted signal from nearby interference?

The kp was high overnight with northern lights showing.
This could overwhelm the GPS and switch to atti.
No it couldn't.
At worst it might an error of 1-2 feet to a GPS fix - but GPS accuracy is 1.5-2 metres usually and sometimes worse so that wouldn't matter.
High K-index has never caused any problems with Phantoms.

A conflict between a badly calibrated compass and GPS data can cause the Phantom to ignore GPS data (switch to atti).

Well interestingly enough i can tell you I experienced a similar issue. First thing is go to your settings and make certain you are not in the beginner mode. Second you have to enable multiple flight modes. The default settings lock out the other modes. To enable go to the DJI GO app, enter the "Camera" page, and tap "Mode" then activate "Multiple Flight Mode."

As far as the system jumping from GPS to Atti (attitude mode where the aircraft only uses the barometer to stabilize) I don't know. The same thing happened to me. It was only about 20 feet away and I believe it had to do with the compass. I had calibrated the compass for the first time.. Maybe i did it wrong.??? No matter it did result in an anxious moment on the first flight though. As I realized the aircraft switched over to ATTI on it's own and started to drift. I was not prompted to calibrate the compass but I did it anyway. No more problems.

Definitely not in beginner mode and it is locked in multiple flight modes under settings.I guess this must have gone back to this after the firmware upgrade as I have used POI etc before but not recently.
I think from listening to you guys this was a compass error possibly caused by standing to close to some metal railings and a combination of being uncomfortable that so many other people where present and of course it was dark.
It was windy which wouldn't help but I also have a syma x5 so shouldn't have felt so uncomfortable flying on ATTI.
The battery is a problem but I will call Buzzflyer on Monday to discuss that further.
If nothing else I have learnt a lot more about my Phantom so I guess that is something.

Thanks Guys

Mine switched back to default settings after I did the recent FW update, It had set my battery discharge back to 10 days, my RTH height at 20m & locked out the other flight modes. Might be worth checking all these on your phantom as well to save a surprise when flying.

Hey,

Could someone please tell me the difference in this screenshot

@ 7 seconds in flight i see GPS ATTI
@ 9 seconds in flight i see ATTI

So the question is, whats the difference between GPS ATTI and ATII

I thought, that indeed the GPS signal dropped and that the phantom changed to P-Atti mode
and i thought ATTI like in the log was a manual switch action.

Can someon clarify or explain this to me a bit more?

It was dark, but no noticeable toilet bowl affect it just seemed to race down wind with little control.
This happened to me recently. If it didn't say you were in atti mode because of metal interference try calibrating your controller.

..and try installing the latest (battery) upgrade before you send it back. Some people seem to have found this a cure iirc.

I rarely use atti mode unless in a large field or indoors always just for practice. Definitely wouldn't use it over water. However you saying you didn't set it to atti makes me think controler issue as well.

been looking at the bad flight again, how did it know where the home point was if it was in ATTI mode? it doesn't say that it had gone back to GPS ATTI?

High voltage power lines? I lost GPS and switched to atti automatically because of this. Lined the red lights up and flew straight home as it started drifting rapidly on the wind.

Update. I spoke to Buzzflyer today who have told me that dji warranty on batteries is only 3 months but they will look at the healthy drones info to see if I am safe to fly with the battery or not???? Watch this space.
